Niequist Center Residential Hanson House
The Niequist Center is a long-term, residential treatment setting for teens with psychiatric and/or behavioral problems. Intensive intervention is focused on reuniting these children with their families and community.
Our treatment team consists of:
  • Residential counselors
  • Case Manager
  • Therapist
  • Psychologist
  • Psychiatrist
  • Parents*
Teens between the ages of 12-18 are eligible to receive short-term shelter care at our facility. Crisis management is emphasized as placement focuses on resolving immediate needs of teens and their families.

Referrals for shelter care come directly from the juvenile probation department and the Office of Family and Children. All children are her under court order and each county is charged a per diem.

Therapeutic services include individual, family and group counseling. Each resident receives a thorough psychiatric and psychological assessment with appropriate follow-up care.

Educational needs are met with a combination of alternative school setting and local public schools. Students have regular tutors and all special education plans are honored.

*Parents and other family members are included in the treatment team to complete a network of people providing resources for each child.

Please direct referral questions to FYSB Residential Services Director at (219) 464-4641

When appropriate, families are encouraged to stay in touch with their children through daily telephone calls and bi-weekly visits. Staff is available to supervise visits.

Family therapy often focuses on problem resolution and reintegration to the home/community. All attempts are made to reach a fast and reasonable alternative to shelter care.

Educational needs are met through coordination with a child's home school. Options include attending home school or receiving individual tutoring in subjects that the school assigns.
